Madrid, 05th June 2023.– Opdenergy, an independent renewable energy producer, joins the United Nations Global Compact, a global initiative of the United Nations that promotes corporate sustainability around the world. This initiative aims to provide member entities with an action framework based on principles, best practices, resources, tools and networking to help companies and organizations align their strategies and operations with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 specific targets to be developed in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

By joining this initiative, Opdenergy reinforces its commitment to the values set out in the Ten Universal Principles on human rights, labour standards, environment and anti-corruption that inspired the creation of the UN Global Compact and commits to communicate and publish its progress on sustainability through an annual sustainability or progress report.

The company, since its inception, has as a fundamental principle a sustainable way of doing business based on clean energy, respect for the environment, society and good governance, as its CEO, Luis Cid, comments: “At Opdenergy we have been working for some time to advance in the implementation of a sustainability strategy that is included in our Sustainability Master Plan 2025. Thus, our investments are mainly oriented towards the use of renewable sources for the promotion of a low-carbon economy, we promote local employment and integration and we maintain strong ethical values”. Furthermore, highlighting the importance of the SDGs, Opdenergy’s CEO states: “We are aware of the importance of the SDGs as agents of change and are therefore committed to advancing and contributing to their achievement by incorporating them as part of our business strategy. As a renewable energy producer, we carry in our DNA the responsibility to fight against climate change and energy transition, so we place environmental sustainability at the heart of our strategy, in line with the company’s corporate mission and vision”.

In particular, this adherence builds on the objective of maintaining high standards of business ethics, formally established by Opdenergy within its strategy, by reinforcing its alignment with recognized human rights initiatives and enables participation in initiatives such as the accelerator programs, which will help increase ambition in areas such as climate action.
